Day 64

We are going to do some great work today! We are going to count in fives and tens, use arrow notation to subtract (minus), solve a story sum, do Mental Maths, subtract (minus) using the number line, practice our handwriting, unjumble words, read, and match sentences to pictures. In Life Skills we will talk more about pets. There is also a speaking activity if Afrikaans is your additional language. On your marks, get set, go!

If you’re new here, the resources used for counting in multiples, sounds learnt (to be cut into sound cards to build words), phonics lists and reading sight words (to be cut out in order to flash the words) can be downloaded here. There are also some practice assessments available on the page.

Maths methods – summary: A second page has been added. This is useful to keep on hand should you forget how each of the different methods in Maths is calculated. Mathematics is one of those subjects where you will always have to show how you got your answer, whether you are in Grade 1 or at university, so make sure to include all the steps for each type of sum. Always leave one line open before starting a new sum – as indicated by the orange crosses.

Handwriting and Phonics – Jumbled words: Because handwriting is assessed it is very important that special attention be given to the formation of letters. Make sure that letters start and stop in the correct place, try to touch the top and bottom lines and do not lift your hand whilst you write.

Phonics – New words: The new lists are available to print here. You don’t need to learn or write the sentences – they are simply there to help you understand what the words mean. Only sound out the words in the blocks on the left and ask Mom or Dad to test how well you know them.

Reading: Read the story. Sound out words that you don’t know. If you get stuck on some of the words in the lists above, practice them some more. Try to read more fluently every day. Also try to read with expression. Think about where your voice needs to be louder or softer. Remember that your voice needs to sound as though you are asking a question when there is a question mark.

Write – Match the sentences to the correct pictures:

Life Skills – Pets: Think carefully about what a pet needs to stay healthy, where they live (sleep) and what we call their babies. This page was taken from the Department of Basic Education’s Life Skills workbook for Terms 3 and 4.

Afrikaans First Additional Language – Vocabulary: We’re learning about what to say when we go to the shop. Try your best to always speak in full sentences.

Ons gaan vandag lekker nuwe werk doen! Ons gaan in twees tel, ‘n storiesom uitwerk, halveer met ‘n res, die getallelyn gebruik om op te tel (plus), handskrif oefen, woorde bou, lees, en voornaamwoorde skryf. In Lewensvaardigheid gaan ons oor troeteldiere leer. Daar is ook ‘n praat aktiwiteit as Engels jou addisionele taal is. Hier gaan ons!

As jy nuut is kan jy die hulpbronne wat vir tel in veelvoude, klanke wat aangeleer is (om in klankkaarte op te knip) klanklyste, en sigwoordlys hier aflaai. Daar is ook ‘n paar oefentoetse oor Kwartaal 2 se werk.

Wiskunde metodes: Daar is ‘n tweede blad bygevoeg. Hierdie is ‘n nuttige opsomming om byderhand te hou vir hoe elke soort som bereken word. Wiskunde is een van die vakke waar jy altyd sal moet wys hoe jy jou antwoorde bereken het, of jy nou in Graad 1 of op universiteit is, so maak altyd seker dat jy al die stappe vir elke soort som volg. Laat altyd een lyntjie oop voordat jy met ‘n nuwe som begin, soos aangedui deur die groen kruisies.

Tel agteruit, storiesom en halveer met ‘n res:

Getallelyn – optelling: Laai die getallelyne hier af.

Handskrif: Omdat Handskrif geassesseer word, is die korrekte vorming van letters baie belangrik. Skryf eerder stadig en netjies as om te jaag. Fokus daarop om die letter op die regte plek te begin en eindig, en raak aan bo en onder aan die lyn. Probeer om nie jou hand op te lig terwyl jy die letters vorm nie.

Klanke – Nuwe woorde: Laai die nuwe lys gerus hier af. Jy hoef nie die sinne te skryf of leer nie – hulle is daar om jou te help om te verstaan wat die woorde beteken. Leer slegs die woorde in die blokke aan die linkerkant. Klank hulle uit en vra vir Mamma of Pappa om te toets hoe goed jy hulle ken.

Klanke – Bou woorde:

Lees – Sigwoorde: Leer al die woorde, maar fokus veral op die nuwe woorde. Probeer om hulle dadelik te sê. Hou aan om jou woorde te leer totdat jy hulle almal mooi ken.

Lees: Lees die storie. Klank die woorde wat onbekend is. Probeer om elke dag ‘n bietjie vlotter te lees. Probeer ook om met gevoel te lees. Onthou dat jou stem harder moet klink as daar ‘n uitroepteken is, en soos ‘n vraag wanneer daar ‘n vraagteken is.

Skryf – Voornaamwoorde:

Lewensvaardigheid – Troeteldiere: Teken ‘n mooi groot prent van ‘n dier wat jy as ‘n troeteldier sal wil hê. Gebruik jou verbeelding! Kyk dan hoeveel van die aktiwiteite jy kan doen. Hierdie blad is geneem uit die Departement van Basiese Onderwys se Lewensvaardigheid werkboek vir Kwartaal 3 en 4.

Engels Addisionele Taal – Woordeskat: Ons leer hierdie week die woorde en sinne wat ons gebruik wanneer ons iets by die winkel wil koop. Jy kan winkel-winkel met iemand speel en hierdie woordeskat gebruik. Probeer om altyd in volsinne te praat.
